10 tunes to take you through the holidays

There is nothing like Christmas music to put you in a festive mood, right? While I do not break the cardinal sin of playing Christmas music before the turkey is done, I do listen to it throughout the month of December. Thought I would share a couple of this year’s favorites…

First up, Drummer Boy by Jars of Clay. Have to be honest. Don’t usually jam to Christian rock, but this version of the song is lovely. May be my top pick for the year.

How about God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen / We Three Kings (With Sarah Mc Lachlan) by the Barenaked Ladies? Love this one. Always puts me in a good mood. And the addition of Sarah McLachlan? Genius.

Song number three, I Believe in Father Christmas by U2, is a real no-brainer for me. I love anything U2.

Another favorite band? Coldplay. Can’t pass up their version of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Last Christmas by Wham! Wow. You either hate this song or you love it. I love it. And, I can hardly believe the number of little teeny boppers who’ve covered it recently. Don’t like the song? Maybe you’ll watch the video just for the hair. Seriously.

Nothing overly amazing with just the song, but oh my gosh, he is totally playing it on water glasses! We’ve watched this one a dozen times :)

Hmmm. Dave Barnes is a new artist for me. Still trying to decide how much I like him, but I do like Christmas Tonight.

Colbie Caillat’s voice is so soothing to me. Like this version of the song Mistletoe.

This one. Ahh. How can you not like a band called Guster? Just sounds fun. And the song? Donde Esta Santa Claus? It’s a classic. On Poncho….Give it a try!

Last, but not least, a holiday classic – White Christmas by Frank Sinatra.

Noticeably left off??? Mariah Carey. Can’t stand her. The Chipmunks? Just heard it playing today. No thanks.

So, what are your favorite Christmas songs? I would love to add a couple new ones to my list…

Great list! A few I love, a few I'm gonna check out and there's just one that makes me wanna gouge my ears out (can you guess which one? It's super "speciallll").

I've been totally digging Jack Johnson's Rudolph version this year, in which he turns the tables at the last minute and our little red-nosed friend respectfully confronts those back-stabbing reindeer who went all fair-weather friend on him when he was suddenly useful. Seriously, it's a crack up.

Also, I can't get enough of Karen Carpenter's silky voice during the holidays – especially "Merry Christmas Darling".

Lastly, Christmas is always a tumultuous time with my extended family, so I've always got Imogen Heap's "Just For Now" on tap – the live Youtube performance is absolutely jaw-dropping.

    Happy Holidays!

You have no idea how many of those I love. I didn't know anyone else even knew about that Guster song. I also love the cheese fest that is "Feed The World" and U2's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" and the "Baby It's Cold Outside" from the Elf soundtrack. Macy Gray's "Winter Wonderland", Josh Groban's "O Holy Night" and James Taylor singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" are other faves.

And The Jackson 5's "Someday At Christmas".

Love this list! Well all except for one ;) . But I do have many Christmas memories attached to that ONE song, even though I hate it :)
I love Josh Groban “what child is this?”. And my all time favorite is enya “silent night”. I get emotional every time I hear it.
    Merry Merry Christmas!!

Have I ever told you that Christmas music makes me angry?
