Be careful what you ask for…

It started out as a silly Twitter conversation…a little joke to cheer up a friend. It turned into one of the most fantastic social events of the summer – Cupcake Conference!

About 50 women (and a few brave men) converged on Salt Lake’s finest hotel, The Grand America, to celebrate friendship, cupcakes and the power of social media…

Cupcake Conf at Grand America

Isn’t this the most gorgeous hotel you’ve ever seen? And the views?!?! Our event was held in the hotel’s Concierge Suite. It was gorgeous!

After checking in up in the suite, the whole group converged upon the hotels enormous kitchens to talk cupcakes with Executive Pastry Chef Fernanda Dutra. What a fun opportunity!

After a brief introduction, Dutra turned over her kitchen to our eager group for a little cupcake decorating. With that many women, you know there had to be some sort of competition…cupcake decorating = cupcake decorating contest!

I can’t say that all of the cupcakes made it to the judging station (a couple decorators just couldn’t wait)…

But those that did looked incredible:

However, I don’t know that any of us will ever be in a position to take over as Executive Pastry Chef…check out the goodies she and her staff supplied us with up in the suite:

Cupcake Conference

There were chocolate cupcakes, vanilla cupcakes, cupcakes with fresh strawberries, M&M’s and fruit bottoms. There were also gluten free cupcakes, vegan cupcakes and plenty of other flavorful high-fat cupcakes :) Each one looked more beautiful than the last!

I was lucky enough to share a “cupcake dining” table with Victoria, Julie, Brittany, Kelli and Diana (Dee Dee). What a fun group! They didn’t even mind that I loaded our table up with variety and made everyone try it (what can I say, I also take just one bite out of each chocolate in the box).

Victoria served as our table celebrity – she won Chef’s Choice in the cupcake decorating contest with her snowman creation. She’s such a creative girl!

Of course, it wouldn’t be an event without a proper giveaway…this one was as grand as the gorgeous hotel we were in.

Our hosts for the event, Gina, Ryley, Stephanie and Becky, arranged for the most incredible gifts! Everything from Pepsi products and cupcake baking kits to jewelry, spa services and cupcake bedazzled snuggies.

The girls are planning a follow-up event for the winter…can’t wait!
