Celebrating the Great Pumpkin

103
It’s a tradition more than 40 years in the making, though we’ve only celebrated for three years now…
Each and every year, we have watched ”It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” in early October to gear up for the season. What a great show?! The kids quote lines from the flick clear through early November.
Here’s one of our favorite scenes. It always solicits zillions of giggles.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a true tradition without accessories, right? This year, I picked up some wonderful bags, along with loads of Charlie Brown themed stuffers from Target’s dollar section.

We also made pumpkin appropriate treats:

Everyone loved these sweet little pumpkin look a likes – delicious! Here’s the recipe:
Orange Snackin’ Popcorn
8 cups popped popcorn
1/4 c. butter
3 T corn syrup (honey will probably work as a substitute, but I haven’t tried it)
1/2 c. sugar
1 small box of orange Jello
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Spread popcorn out on cookie sheet.
Place butter and syrup in a pan and heat until butter is melted. Add sugar and Jello. Increase heat and bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer and cook for five minutes. Immediately pour mixture over popcorn, making sure all the popcorn is coated.
Once the popcorn is coated form into balls (I sprayed my hands lightly with cooking spray so the popcorn didn’t stick to me) and place lollipop stick in the middle.

We had lots of fun spending the evening together. Coming up in November and December we will be watching more Charlie Brown specials. Do you watch any and do you have a favorite?

Ian has the same bag, his MiMi got it for him full of goodies. She gave it to him right before we sat down and watch The Great Pumpkin (it was Ian's first time).

Tried the popcorn and didn't have enough sauce to spread around to make balls. Did I do something wrong?
