The concept of showing movies outdoors under the stars isn’t novel; the first drive-in theater opened in New Jersey over 75 years ago today.
The popularity of drive-in theaters exploded in the 1950’s and by 1958, there were nearly 5,000 drive-ins from coast to coast. Sadly, there are only about 375 drive-in theaters left in the United States.
