My dearest friend in the world is from Finland. Growing up, that alone was a romantic thought. She often mentioned the advent calendars she remembered from her childhood. I don’t know what those calendars looked like, but in my head they were absolutely amazing.
Today, I am obsessed with advent calendars…I place the blame for this insanity squarely on her shoulders I am constantly shopping for, looking at and bookmarking advent calendars for every holiday and skill level. I am still looking for the perfect version to present my friend…
In the meantime, I have been experimenting with my own creations. I made this easy advent calendar a couple of years ago (long before I documented every move for my blog). I patterned it after an advent I saw on Pottery Barn Kids for about $65. My version cost less than $10.
Since making this version, I’ve dreamed up a number of improvements and I think I will make a new one next year. I’ve been bookmarking like crazy and I thought I would share a few of the calendars I really like!
There are several papercraft versions like the one pictured here by Funky Craft Mama. I love the color and all the little envelopes. Additional paper calendars are located here, here and here.
I love the idea of using this treat bag craft from Woman’s Day as an advent…you could print/stamp the little bags with a number.
If you’re not into creating your own calendar, there are some very cute, inexpensive options out there like the one pictured above from Spoon Sisters.
My favorite version is the more detailed, upscale version of the pocket calendar over at Nerd Bucket.
