Great books for kids: ‘Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving

There are times I get so wrapped up in big-time traditions that I simply forget how important every day rituals are. One of the greatest things my mom passed on to me was a love of reading. And really, what better time is there to share a favorite book with your kids than the holidays?

Thanksgiving is of course, a wonderful holiday, but for kids it can be a bit of a bore…the cleaning, the cooking and the chatter? Not that much fun.

We’re always looking for ways to get the boys in the spirit and I can’t think of a better way than by sharing Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving by Dav Pilkey with them.

Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving

We love this book like crazy. A silly little story about a group of kids who embark on a surprisingly fun field trip and save a bunch of turkeys.

The illustrations are bright and fun.

Really, we could read this book every day of November.

Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving is just perfect for us. I hope you’ll try it out with your family and let me know what you think!

In the meantime, do you have a favorite Thanksgiving book?

This is one of our favorites too. We have a holiday book basket that we rotate books for each holiday (okay, we have 3 huge baskets for Christmas). The one you feature has great rhymes.

  5. It’s just a matter of time until some pastor, rabbi, priest, etc. is taken to court by a gay couple for violating some anti-discrimination law or other for refusing to marry them. After all how can you have true equality if you can’t get married anywhere straight couples can?

  6. Absolutely, positively makes perfect sense! In fact science supports this by confirming certain hormones are produced between 9-11pm to support sleep and repair, regeneration of the body…..

I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan but I've been wanting to ride this thing soooo bad. Can't believe I haven't made it back down there to check it out yet, as I don't think I've read a bad review. I could also use the Hippogriff credit even though it's just a large roller skater.

  8. You’ve really helped me understand the issues. Thanks.
