How to organize the hundreds of business cards you collect at social media conferences right on site!

In June, I had the chance to attend the EVO’10 conference in Park City, UT (absolutely fabulous by the way). Like any conference, everyone was there for the swag…I mean, classes and networking!

Loved all the new people I met and collected dozens of these:

Blogger Business Cards

And when I got home, some of them looked like this:

Blogger Business Card

Not to mention the fact that I continue to find them tucked into the random notebook, laptop skin and my purse to this day.

I was bound and determined that I would do a better job collecting and organizing the contacts I made at BlogHer ‘10, because I love my bloggy friends and didn’t want any of you to end up at the bottom of my purse stuck together with fruit snacks and lint.

And so I made this:

Blogger Business Card Organizer

It’s a simple solution. A 2” binder ring, with a single hole punch, laminated cover card and category cards. I tell ya’ it worked like a charm!

I had hoped to attach a little sharpie or pen as well, but just couldn’t find any of the small ones in the store while getting ready…

I was lucky enough to share my simple solution with some great girls Turns out they liked it to!

Thanks to Loralee, who made me feel like the greatest inventor/mad scientist, rock star in her post about them here. She is incredibly warm and wonderful. And, it’s highly likely her post on my organizer is actually better than mine!

And thanks to Jo, who has offered to put them in the swag bags at her amazing Creative Connection event. Read more about it here.

I know the case could be made for a mobile app or mini scanner, but I will always be a sucker for a well-designed piece of paper :)

What do you do to organize your cards at business conferences or at home? Love to see some new creative ideas…

In the meantime, I am planning on posting printable cards for future conferences so that you can make your very own organizer. Going to a conference and don’t see it here? Let me know…I will create something!

I put all of my cards on a ring like that after Blissdom and Bloggy Boot Camp. Did I tell you that? I'm not sure.. I'm still tired. I can't find my hole punch and could not appease my OCD today…I cursed ur name because of this…that is all.

Great idea! I love to keep mine in a little case that separates two or three business cards with clear plastic (kind of like a credit card case…) Love this idea.

I just wish that while we were chatting I had been smart enough to BEG YOU for one of those. It's BRILLIANT. Truly. I am still digging out biz cards from the bottom of my laptop bag.

This is just FANTASTIC. Well, done, T.

  13. My wife and i have been comfortable that Emmanuel managed to finish up his preliminary research via the ideas he acquired out of your web page. It’s not at all simplistic to simply happen to be freely giving secrets and techniques which the others could have been making money from. So we know we have the website owner to give thanks to because of that. Most of the explanations you made, the easy website navigation, the relationships your site give support to instill – it’s got mostly spectacular, and it’s aiding our son and the family reason why this matter is fun, and that’s tremendously vital. Many thanks for everything!
