Meeting Bakerella

Bakerella Cake Pops

No one know why October 14 is National Dessert Day, but it seems like a totally appropriate day to meet Bakerella (aka Angie Dudley). I mean the woman has created an empire out of mini cupcakes, Christmas trees, Mr. Potato Head and little Easter chicks made out of a little bit of cake, frosting, candy and lollipop sticks…

I’ve been watching her create her cake pops for about three years. I have no idea how popular her blog was when I first started reading it, but she continuously posts yummy desserts (often her uber famous cake pops) every Sunday and today she has about 3 million page views a month!

Today, I was able to go to Trolley Square – one of my favorite stops to shop – in Salt Lake City to meet her. We were lucky enough to be nearer to the front of the pack…

I was glad we were there in time to purchase one of her books, because they were moving fast…

I met up with Dianna while waiting…

There were so many ladies (and one or two men) there, there was very little room to move about and meet up with others…

Bakerella took lots of questions from the audience before signing her book…

Did you know that cracked cake balls can be filled in with the chocolate frosting or just dipped twice?

How about her favorite cake pop? It’s this one here.

Or how about where she buys her favorite tools? You can find a list here.

Did you know that all that color behind the cake pops in her photos is just colored paper? Or that she doesn’t have a lot of natural light in her kitchen?

Also, she still works her full-time job as a graphic designer.

Wondering what she’s up to while in Salt Lake City? She was only here for the day, but she said she really enjoyed her meal here.

She’s so genuinely sweet, you can’t help but like her. She took the time to talk to each person as she signed their book and allowed photos with anyone who wanted one!

I can’t wait to crack open the book and “read” it cover to cover…Thanks Bakerella!
